Aurora Hills is a historic neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia. The real estate market here is predominately detached single-family homes for sale, and most of those were built prior to World War II. There are some exceptions to the rule, but it’s safe to categorize this as one of Arlington’s older communities, known for gracious upscale residences.
The community’s earliest residents were farmers, with a couple surviving buildings dating back to 1870. One of those is a Greek Revival-style manor—the lone remnant of what once was the large Sunnydale Farm. In 1896, the area was subdivided by the Addison Heights Company. Aurora Hills was one the three original subdivisions—the others being Addison Heights and Virginia Highlands. The collective area is sometimes referred to as Aurora Highlands.

The development of homes for sale in Aurora Hills began in the early 1920s, with construction increasing over the next two decades. Among the earlier architectural styles were Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Craftsman and even some interesting Modern Movement homes. Cape Cod houses began appearing around the early 1940's, and there are also some brick Ranch-styles from the very early 1950's.
As for geographic location, Aurora Hills is bounded by Addison Heights to the north, Crystal City to the east, Alexandria to the south and Arlington Ridge to the west. The proximity to Crystal City and Pentagon City allows for plenty of shopping, restaurants and entertainment, as well as transit via the Metro Stations in those neighborhoods. I-395 is also close by, to the west.
Homes for sale in Aurora Hills tend to be on the expensive side, ranging from the high six figures to over a million dollars. Residents enjoy quiet shady streets, neighborhood events and nearby parks. With a population of about 1,600, this is a fairly small and intimate subdivision with an “Old Arlington” feel.
