Arlington Village Condos For Sale, Arlington VA
Located at 1100-1400 Barton Street Arlington, VA 22204
Arlington Village is one of several large garden courtyard communities built in the Washington Metro area during the World War II era. It is also a very awesome collection of historic brick townhouse condos for sale! Located on 42 acres in Arlington, Virginia, the community lies just south of Columbia Pike, and features one, two and three-bedroom townhomes. The exteriors are sturdy brick in a Colonial Revival style, with varying rooflines—flat, gambrel and gable.
This community was once farmland, and was purchased for development by Gustave Ring in 1939. The price of the entire parcel (53 acres at the time) was $362,500—about the cost of just one of the 656 present day units. Ring was well-known as an innovator of suburbanized garden courtyard communities that were especially popular with wartime workers and their families.

More About Condominiums For Sale in Arlington Village
The general look of Arlington Village is akin to similar nearby garden communities, such as Buckingham Village which was built by Ring’s contemporary, Allie Freed. One difference is that Arlington Village has remained primarily intact, losing just about 10 acres over time, part of which was a shopping center within the community and now under separate ownership.
Condos for sale at Arlington Village exist in a fairly narrow band, from the $200s to high $300s. It should also be noted that about 10 percent of the residences are cooperatives. There’s plenty of amenities within the sprawling complex, including a swimming pool, recreation facilities and of course, the courtyards that wind in and among five superblocks. There’s also a wooded area that is certified as a Natural Wildlife Habitat. And while the shopping center is no longer “officially” part of the village, it’s still within its bounds so who cares?
Designated as a historic district, Arlington Village presents the opportunity to buy a retro townhouse at a highly affordable price. There’s also a nice sense of community that you don’t often get in smaller developments or the omnipresent glass and steel condo towers. Plus, there’s nearby Columbia Pike which will mean easy access to the long-awaited electric streetcar line—if and when it ever arrives.
