The neighborhood dates way back to the massive Johnson’s Hill farm in the early 1700s. Arlington View would become the northernmost section of the subdivided land, with Nauck/Green Valley to the south.

The earliest standing homes in Arlington View date back to the very late 1800s, with more concerted development beginning at the turn of the century and continuing steadily until the late 1930s. Small brick single-family homes, some larger Victorians and wooden Craftsman-style bungalows were the predominant architectural types during that era.
Construction resumed after the end of World War II, with modest Ramblers and other cottage-type structures introduced. However, the neighborhood went through a period of decline during the 1950s, leading to cleanup efforts by a neighborhood coalition. Those self-starting efforts led to grants from the Arlington Neighborhood Conservation Plan, with street and sidewalk repair, as well as the building of a small park.
Residential development slowed again after the early 1960s, and subsequently resumed about twenty years later, with remodels, newer construction and some condos and townhouses. Today, the community is a diverse mix of old and new. The Hoffman-Boston Elementary School was founded in 1916 and still serves proudly. Another pillar of the community is Mount Olive Baptist Church which dates to 1879, and was moved to Arlington View in 1932.
