Built in 1886, this distinctive eight-story Beaux Arts structure with its limestone accents was once an office building. But it was redeveloped and completely renovated in 2008, resulting in 16 luxury condos for sale. The residences are quite spacious, ranging from 2,200 up to 4,500 square feet in size—the largest units being penthouses with their own private roof terraces.

Condos for sale at 2501 don’t come cheap—recent prices have been between $2 million and $6 million. That latter listing was for a penthouse unit. All residences have private elevator access, as well as soaring ceilings and exotic wide-plank hardwood floors. Other features include fireplaces, crown molding, and triple-pane windows to minimize city noise. The modern kitchens are both minimalist and stunning at the same time, with Bosch, Sub Zero and Thermador stainless steel appliances. Also worth noting are the luxurious marble baths with frameless showers, whirlpool tubes and Waterworks fixtures.

Residents at 2501 Pennsylvania also enjoy a stunning front lobby that’s staffed 24/7, including concierge service and a front doorman. Each unit comes with two secure garage parking spaces as well as additional storage.

The building is at the corner of Pennsylvania and 25th Street, in a prime location where high-end neighborhoods all come together. Georgetown with its amazing shops and restaurants is just three blocks away, while Foggy Bottom is even closer.

Step outside one of the elite residences at this notable address and stroll to the Kennedy Center, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro, a brand-new public library and top restaurants like Marcel’s by Robert Wiedmaier, Blue Duck Tavern and Bayou.

The West End Neighborhood

The West End neighborhood has a long and rich history, as well as boundaries that have morphed over the years. It was initially named as the westernmost portion of the District at the time. That didn’t last long as the original planning map soon expanded. The West End is also smaller than it once was. The neighborhood used to extend well south of Pennsylvania Avenue and east of 23rd Street. An area now known as the Old West End Historic District pushes deep into the present day Foggy Bottom neighborhood. In fact, George Washington University which now describes its location as Foggy Bottom, is actually in the Old West End sector.

In 1973, Washington’s Office of Planning issued a report entitled “New Town for the West End.” That set in motion a new era of redevelopment aimed at revitalizing the area with an emphasis on expanding residential housing. It took some time to execute that vision, especially given rampant urban decline in the nation’s capital during the 1970s. But eventually, West End became one of Washington’s most desirable places to live.

West End’s in-town location has much to do with the appeal—it’s close to the political halls of power and even closer to elite residential neighborhoods like Dupont Circle and Georgetown. There’s also a fascinating cross-blend of old and new, with historic buildings like 2501 Pennsylvania and The Columbia coexisting with new modern condominiums such as Westlight. The West End neighborhood also continues to produce popular new restaurants, boutique retailers and redeveloped public structures such as the new West End Library.

Transit Options for Residents at 2501 Pennsylvania

The West End is more of Washington’s most transit-friendly neighborhoods, especially when it comes to getting around by foot. The Walk Score of 98 is one of the highest in the District. The walkability quotient is great for those who teach, work at or attend George Washington University, or for those who work at the World Bank. The West End is also great for residents who choose peddle power.

Washingtonians are also heavily reliant on Metrorail transit. While the West End doesn’t have its own dedicated Metro station in name, the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station just about four blocks from 2501 Pennsylvania. That’s convenient!

But many people still prefer driving, especially when it comes to longer distances. Residents at 2501 Pennsylvania have secure parking, a luxury that is often not available in high-density urban communities. Pennsylvania Avenue itself is one of the District’s original grand boulevards and connects to many of the District’s other main roadways, from K Street to Route 66. You can also head across the Potomac River to Arlington via the nearby Key or Roosevelt Bridge. Whether you’re on foot, using the Metro or driving, the West End is a great neighborhood for transit options.
