Not only did the builders have to create a structure that fit into a triangular parcel of urban land, there was an existing gas station on the front corner of the lot. Exxon wasn’t interested in abandoning the prime DC location, and so the design firm came up with a rather ingenious plan—shaping their project around the station and also creating a landscaped canopy roof for it. When residents look out their windows they see a “floating garden” as architect Robert M. Sponseller describes it, rather than the service station. This was just one of the creative responses that led to the 2009 RADA Grand Award for Best Multifamily Design in the United States.
The varied floorplans range from one to three bedrooms, many of which also have dens and some of which have two levels. The ninth floor is home to exclusive penthouses for sale, with either balconies or large private rooftop terraces. Blonde hardwood floors are bathed in natural light from massive windows.
