Yacht Haven, VA Homes For Sale

Finding the right waterfront home for sale in the Washington Metro region can be a challenge. But hopeful buyers may want to consider the aptly-named community of Yacht Haven, located at the southern tip of the Alexandria area. Are you ready to slip on some deck shoes and hoist a mainsail?

This smallish enclave is a subdivision of the Mount Vernon community and part of Fairfax County as well. If you need more geographical reference points, Yacht Haven is right next-door to the charming Woodlawn Manor neighborhood.

This is an area steeped in rich history. Yacht Haven is on land once belonging to Union Farm which was one of several plantations that made up George Washington’s massive Mount Vernon estate. This specific strip of riverfront territory can be found along Dogue Creek, at the mouth of the Potomac River.

Residential development would have to wait a while, however. Some gracious waterfront estates started popping up around the 1930s. But it wasn’t until the 1950s that a larger phase of construction began, with the Yacht Haven Estates. An integral part of that process included the developers deeding land to the Mount Vernon Yacht Club, thus creating a private lagoon for swimming and boating purposes. This is a community that values its riverfront social scene!

While recent homes for sale in Yacht Haven have started around $600,000 for original 1950s residences, the majority of listings are over the million dollar mark. This stands true for both older and newer properties, including stately antiques that have been renovated and enlarged over time. One more recently built Mediterranean-style waterfront estate with private elevator and private docks, recently listed for $3.45 million.

You’ll find a wide blend of architectural styles—everything from mid-century brick Ranch homes to massive Georgian mansions. This tranquil neighborhood may feel far from the madding crowd, but it’s a snap to get to Old Town Alexandria for a night on the town. Just head north along the coastline-hugging George Washington Memorial Highway. Call District Partners at Compass to find more about available properties for sale in this upscale community by the river, (202) 798-3600.
