More About the Chillum Real Estate Market
Chillum dates back to early colonial land grants and farmers, and was also the home of a huge estate known as Chillum Castle Manor, built in the 1700s. Also known as Green Hill, the manor later became a Pallotine Seminary and is the final resting place of Charles Pierre L'Enfant—the original planner of Washington, DC.
Despite its rich history, Chillum didn't become widely developed until the early 1930s when the land went through substantial new subdividing. Construction continued up until the 1980s, largely tapering off since then with exceptions for a much smaller number of newer custom homes for sale. For the most part, however, real estate properties are very competitively priced.
Condos for sale in Chillum can start off below $100,000, rising gradually through the low six figure range. As for detached single-family homes for sale, list prices start in the very low six figures and rarely climb past $500,000. Architectural styles offer a little of everything, with Colonials, Victorians, Capes, Craftsman-style cottages, Ramblers and Split-levels.
