An Amorphous Location
Exact boundaries for the Cathedral Heights community (also referred to simply as Cathedral) can be uncertain. Generally speaking, surrounding neighborhoods include McLean Gardens to the north, Massachusetts Avenue Heights to the east, Glover Park to the south and Wesley Heights to the west. Then again, others consider Cathedral Heights to cover a larger area. Another debatable point—some believe that Glover Archbold Park runs through the middle of Cathedral Heights while other believe the park to be just west of Cathedral.
The Real Estate Market in Cathedral Heights
While the size and parameters of Cathedral Heights may be subject to debate, the types of properties are not. You’ll find a wealth of grand old buildings, including the Westchester (a giant co-op built in 1931), Alban Tower, the Worland and the Warrick. There are also some smaller buildings from the 1940s and 1950s that have gone condo as well as large International-style structures from the 1960s and 1970s.
More recent developments include Cathedral Commons, a mixed-use community with apartments, townhouses and a Giant grocery.
More About Cathedral Heights
You’ll find a nice mix of local restaurants in the neighborhood, including Café Deluxe, Chef Geoff’s, La Piquette, The Grilled Oyster Company, and Barcelona Wine Bar Cathedral Heights. There’s also the Wagshal’s Deli, the Glover Park Ace Hardware Store (for those weekend projects) and a lovely park to stroll in.
As for mass transit, viewers of the DC-based TV show House of Cards may remember the infamous scene at the “Cathedral Heights Metro” where the character Zoe Barnes met her fate. However, such a station does not actually exist. The closest Metro is in Tenleytown to the north.
